International Course on Training in advanced drug detection technologies

A three-day international training course “Use of field tests and portable devices for the detection of drugs” organized by the Academy of Law Enforcement Agencies in the framework of the Regional Hub and supported by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) has started in Astana.

Members of the UNODC Regional Representation in Central Asia, specialists from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan take part in the forum.

This training is the fourth of a series of training courses implemented by the UNODC for the states of the region to combat the spread of synthetic drugs. It focuses on teaching advanced technologies for drug detection.

The acting first vice-rector of the Academy Shakir Shayakhmetov noted the importance of the training course for professional development of specialists, noted the need to unite efforts to counter drug crime, and to suppress drug trafficking channels.

In the framework of improving the means and methods of struggle, one of the main tasks of drug control services is the search for and detection of drugs. A highly effective ways of detecting drugs are field tests and portable technical means of a new generation.

According to experts, devices can accurately identify not only drugs, but also stimulants, depressants, hallucinogens and analgesics at a distance. Easy for use, rapid and accurate analysis of the drug anywhere creates a large spectrum for the use of these funds.

Kazakhstani experts will act as instructors, as well as experts from Afghanistan – Afghan anti-drug police officers will take part for the first time on the basis of the Regional Hub.

The trainers will familiarize their colleagues with the national practice on the application of advanced methods of countering the drug business and investigating crimes of this category.

Classes will take place in the mode of real action. Within three days the students will get acquainted with the work of devices, master practical skills of identification of drugs.
