Workshop on Investigating Financial Crimes and Returning Illegal Assets

A seminar on the investigation of financial crimes related to money laundering and the returning of illegal assets on the basis of the Regional Hub for Combating Global Threats has completed at the Law Enforcement Academy.

The audience was 43 employees of the prosecution authorities, the National Anti-Corruption Bureau, the State Revenue Committee, the Ministry of the Interior, the Financial Monitoring Committee and the National Bank.

The purpose of the training is to improve the skills of specialists in the field of investigation of financial crimes, intensify interagency cooperation and exchange experience in this area.

The training was conducted by experts from the UK, national trainers in financial investigations, trained at the Academy, as well as employees of the internal audit service of second-tier banks.
Specialists shared modern techniques for identifying and recovering stolen assets. Foreign experts spoke about the basic concepts of money laundering, the world’s best practices for ensuring the return of criminal capital brought abroad.

The students got acquainted with the basics of conducting an internal investigation in the banking sector, the capabilities of financial intelligence units, methods of working with open sources of law enforcement services to recover stolen assets.

The solution of case studies and active participation in practical exercises allowed to acquire new knowledge and skills, to learn effective ways and methods of detecting and combating crimes in the financial sphere.

In general, the training event, in the general opinion of its participants, showed great interest in enhancing interagency cooperation and the exchange of experience, consolidating joint efforts to combat financial crime.
