An international seminar was organized for representatives of power structures in 8 countries of Central Asia and the Middle East on curbing financial flows from migrants smuggling and human trafficking.
On October 1-2, 2019, a seminar will be held in the city of Nur-Sultan on the topic “International and regional cooperation to curb illegal financial flows resulting from trafficking in persons and migrants smuggling”.
The event was organized by the Law Enforcement Academy under the Prosecutor General’s Office in conjunction with UNODC.
The seminar will be attended by representatives of the prosecutor’s office, financial intelligence units and national security agencies of Afghanistan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.
The main goal is to facilitate the exchange of information and the use of informal networks in order to improve regional and interdepartmental cooperation in curbing illegal financial flows associated with human trafficking and migrants smuggling.
Nowadays, human trafficking is one of the forms of profitable criminal business. According to the Global Slavery Index worldwide, nearly 40 million people are in captivity.
In Kazakhstan, more than a hundred people are saved from labor slavery every year. Mostly women and children are at risk.
According to the International Labor Organization, illicit proceeds from human trafficking are estimated at approximately $ 32 billion annually.

The seminar will touch upon relevant issues:
Current routes, current trends, methods of human trafficking and migrants smuggling, as well as their relationship with illegal financial flows;
The role of financial intelligence units in the investigation of crimes related to human trafficking and migrants smuggling;
Regional experience in using financial investigations to combat human trafficking and migrants smuggling;
The efforts of international organizations to combat human trafficking and migrants smuggling.
Media representatives will be able to:
• Talk with representatives of international organizations that will discuss issues of interagency and international cooperation in the fight against human trafficking, migrants smuggling and illegal financial flows;
• To get acquainted with international experts and seminar participants from various departments;
• Interview practitioners, including experts and workshop participants.
