Academy’s Round Table on Protecting Whistleblowers

On August 7, 2025, a viewpoint round table was held at the Academy of Law Enforcement Agencies under the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Event Theme

The event focused on the protection of citizens who provide information about corruption offenses.

Participants

Attendees included scholars and practitioners, as well as representatives from the prosecutor’s office, financial monitoring agencies, and other government departments.

Keynote Speaker

Professor Vladimir Sergevnine from Western Illinois University (Illinois, USA) gave a keynote speech on the topic of “Protecting Individuals Who Report Corruption: Effective Mechanisms for Practical Application (Based on the Example of Illinois).”

Key Outcomes

  • Improved Support System: Participants reviewed several proposals aimed at improving the system for supporting and protecting civic engagement in combating corruption.
  • Adapting International Experience: The discussion underscored the importance of adapting international best practices to Kazakhstan’s legislation and legal enforcement.
  • Future Outlook: Participants expressed confidence that the ideas and initiatives discussed would help strengthen legal and institutional support for citizens who report corruption.

Following the event, the Academy plans to publish the round table’s recommendations.
