On December 5 and 6 in Astana, the Academy of Law Enforcement Agencies, together with the representative offices of the European Union in Kazakhstan, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, the Akniet Public Foundation, held an annual regional meeting of the Central Asian Network on Countering and Preventing Violent Extremism (CAPVE) “Rehabilitation and reintegration of persons returned from conflict zones: the experience of Central Asian countries”.
The importance of the work carried out in this direction was noted in their speeches by the Minister of Information and Public Development of Kazakhstan Darkhan Kydyrali, Chairman of the Committee on Religious Affairs Yerzhan Nukezhanov.
The authorized bodies of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan shared the experience and problems of countries on the return of their citizens, including women and children, from conflict zones: Syria and Iraq.
Non-governmental organizations highlighted the results of their work and the results of interaction with the public sector in the implementation of rehabilitation and reintegration programs for returned persons.
The participants were very interested in Kazakhstan’s experience in conducting the humanitarian operation “Zhusan”.
The First Vice-Rector of the Academy, Kaliolla Seitenov, thanked the partners for their fruitful work and expressed interest in further strengthening cooperation.
The Central Asian Network was established by UNODC with the assistance of the Academy of Law Enforcement Agencies in 2017 and brings together experts from Central Asian countries in order to strengthen cooperation and increase the region’s resilience to the threats of violent extremism.
The Academy of Law Enforcement Agencies has been acting as the presiding organization of the Network since 2020.
