The international round table on countering cybercrime and information security was held at the Academy of Law Enforcement Agencies with the support of the Kazakhstan-German International Cooperation Fund “IRZ” and the Office of OSCE Programs in Astana.
The forum was attended by representatives of state and law enforcement agencies, the Academy of Public Administration under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the scientific community, non-governmental organizations, international and national experts.
Issues of legislative regulation of information security, improvement of criminal legislation in this sphere were discussed. The analysis of the effectiveness of tools to investigate cybercrime, the use of software systems to detect and prevent computer attacks was conducted.
An important topic of discussion was the strengthening of interagency and interstate cooperation. Special emphasis was put on international legal mechanisms to combat cybercrime, sharing the practice of cross-border investigations of crimes.
Proposals were made on measures to ensure the information security of law enforcement agencies which are developed on the basis of national and foreign experience. In particular, the ideas of practical interaction and information exchange between Internet providers and law enforcement agencies were discussed. The participants in the meeting highly appreciated the initiative of adopting the strategy “Cybershield of Kazakhstan”.
German experts shared the experience of the Federal Republic of Germany and the European Union in implementing the information security strategy, identifying and blocking illegal content.
The acting first vice-rector Shakir Shayakhmetov expressed confidence that the forum will allow to concentrate all resources to ensure effective counteraction to cybercrime, to protect society and the state from potential threats.
