From 7 to 11 September 2026, the Academy of Law Enforcement Agencies under the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Republic of Kazakhstan held professional development courses for prosecution service staff with up to five years’ experience who supervise the legality of criminal prosecution.
The course was entitled “Skills in investigating and supervising criminal cases of torture”.
The training was aimed at improving prosecutors’ skills in investigating criminal cases of torture, documenting such incidents and ensuring that the constitutional rights of participants in criminal proceedings are upheld.
The practical component included simulation training in conducting investigative actions, from the registration of a criminal case in the Unified Register of Pre-trial Investigations through to the completion of the investigation.
A new element of the course was the investigation of a criminal case in electronic format, which made the training more practice-oriented and closer to real working conditions.
Sessions were delivered by experienced members of the Academy’s teaching staff; officers of the Pre-trial Investigation Service and the 1st Service of the Prosecutor General’s Office; T.M. Sadinov, Candidate of Sciences and author of the study “Prevention of Torture”; A.E. Tashtenov, a lawyer of the Almaty Region Bar Association; A.T. Abulkasimova, a judge of the Specialised Inter-district Criminal Court of Astana; and representatives of civil society organisations.
Participants discussed topical issues of law enforcement practice, including appeals against the procedural decisions of officials and the application of measures of restraint.
At the end of the course, participants were presented with certificates.
