During a working visit to Greece, Nurgalym Abdirov, Rector of the Academy of Law Enforcement Agencies under the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Republic of Kazakhstan, took part in a meeting of the Board of Directors of the European Public Law Organization (EPLO) and held talks with the leadership of EPLO and the European Law and Governance University (ELGU).
EPLO is an international organisation that brings together states, universities and research institutes in the fields of public law, the rule of law and professional training.
Following the meetings, the Academy signed a Memorandum of Understanding with EPLO and a Cooperation Agreement with ELGU. The documents provide for the development of joint educational, research and expert projects.
One of the key outcomes was an agreement to establish an EPLO Regional Centre at the Academy. The centre will focus on joint research, participation in international and grant-funded projects, and the training and retraining of staff of law enforcement and other state bodies.
Particular attention was given to areas of direct relevance to modern law enforcement: cybersecurity, the use of artificial intelligence and countering transnational organised crime.
As part of the cooperation with ELGU, joint educational programmes were agreed, including dual degree programmes, academic mobility and internships. It was agreed that 20 of the Academy’s master’s and doctoral students will be sent on internships. The parties also considered the creation of joint research groups and the prospect of opening an ELGU branch at the Academy.
The agreements reached place the Academy’s international cooperation on a practical footing – through joint research and educational programmes, the exchange of experience, internships and the involvement of foreign expertise.
