An OSCE training course on online investigations into human trafficking is taking place at the Law Enforcement Academy

On 17–18 June, the Law Enforcement Academy under the General Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic of Kazakhstan is hosting a national training course for trainers on proactive online investigations into human trafficking, organised with the support of the OSCE Secretariat and the OSCE Programme Office in Astana.

The training aims to develop practical skills in identifying and investigating human trafficking offences involving digital technologies, as well as to train national trainers to further disseminate best international practices.

During the training, participants are learning methods for identifying signs of exploitation in the online environment, the basics of OSINT and digital forensics.

Practical, hands-on training is one of the Academy’s priority areas of activity. Since 2019, seven simulation exercises on combating human trafficking and irregular migration have been conducted in collaboration with the OSCE.

As part of the event, the Academy’s Rector, Nurgalyma Abdirova, met with an OSCE delegation led by the OSCE Special Representative and Coordinator on Combating Trafficking in Human Beings, Dr Kari Johnston, and the Head of the OSCE Programme Office in Astana, Alexei Rogov.

The parties discussed prospects for further cooperation in the areas of staff training, the development of teaching and learning materials, the use of the Academy’s cyber training centre, and the expansion of regional knowledge-sharing.
