From June 9 to 14, 2025, the Kyrgyz Republic hosted the second regional simulation exercise on combating trafficking in human beings and illegal migration, organized by the Office of the OSCE Special Representative and Coordinator for Combating Trafficking in Human Beings.
The event was attended by 145 representatives from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Turkey, and Uzbekistan.
The first such exercise took place in 2023 at the Academy of Law Enforcement Agencies under the General Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The training opened with a speech by Nurlanbek Azigaliyev, Deputy Speaker of the Jogorku Kenesh of the Kyrgyz Republic, who noted the importance of coordinated efforts by the states of the region and thanked the Kazakh side for its assistance in freeing Kyrgyz citizens from labor slavery in Myanmar.
The main focus was on practical training for government officials on identifying victims of human trafficking among migrants and refugees, as well as on the use of standard procedures for referring them to organizations that provide assistance.
The Law Enforcement Academy thanks the representatives of the Kazakh delegation (the Prosecutor General’s Office, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection, non-governmental organizations such as the Phoenix Development and Adaptation Center, the Women’s Support Center in Petropavlovsk, the Astana-Korgau Charitable Foundation, the Korgau-Astana Foundation, the Association of Crisis Centers, and the Tirek Human Rights Center) for their involvement and high level of professionalism in the simulation training.
