The Law Enforcement Academy continues to implement a specialized training program for prosecutors aimed at improving their professional competencies in the area of supervision and support of public prosecution in criminal cases related to human trafficking.
From April 9 to 10, the ninth cluster seminar was held in Taraz at the Zhambyl Region Prosecutor’s Office with the support of the OSCE Program Office in Astana. This event was another step in cooperation with international partners aimed at supporting the efforts of the Government of Kazakhstan to combat human trafficking.
During the training, participants discussed current trends and characteristics of crimes in this category. Particular attention was paid to a victim-centered approach, which prioritizes the protection of victims’ rights and comprehensive interagency cooperation.
Prosecutors deepened their knowledge of modern methods of investigating criminal cases, tactics for supporting public prosecution, and issues of effective prosecutorial oversight at the pre-trial and trial stages.
One of the key components of the seminar was a discussion of the national mechanism for referring victims of human trafficking. Svetlana Koshelekova, director of the Public Position public foundation, was invited to highlight its practical aspects. She shared her experience of implementing the mechanism and emphasized the importance of coordination between state and public structures.
The seminar confirmed that a key element in combating human trafficking is a high level of training for prosecutors. Equipped with the necessary knowledge and practical skills, they play an important role in protecting the rights of victims and bringing perpetrators to justice. The Academy intends to further develop the training system, strengthening professional standards and legal culture in the field of combating crimes that undermine human dignity.
